It was my intention to go into the gym today and perform the regular protocol of walking, stretching, and foam rolling — the usual stuff I do prior to a meet. I started off with a half mile walk, but something was stirring inside me that walking would not and could not satiate — I wanted to lift heavy. So I got off the treadmill, went over to the rack and prepared to squat. Front squat. I’ve not front squatted since mid-summer when I gave up on them.
- Front Squat: 45×8, 115×10, 135×7, 185×3, 205×3, 225×3, 275×2, 295×1, 315×1 (PR!), 325×0
- Dumbbell Goblet Squat: 70×12, 75×10, 80×8, 85×8, 90×8.
- Hinge Row: 8 reps.
I came to the gym in only in my running shoes and did not bring my belt or knee sleeves, so testing PR — a new PR btw — was furthest thing from mind when I went this morning. The bar was moving good, and my wrist and elbow mobility were really good so, why not? Really glad I did because last PR was somewhere around 235 lbs and it wasn’t a comfortable, or strong one either. This session has given me extra confidence heading into next week’s meet.
When the iron calls, I suppose you better damn well answer.
